Modified Escaping Bird Search for Passive Control of Building systems by Tuned Mass Damper

چکیده :

Escaping bird search (EBS) is a recently developed metaheuristic algorithm with rapid convergence in engineering problems. The present work embeds different opposition-based learning approaches to EBS. The treated OBL approaches include boundary-related OBL, optimum OBL, quasi OBL and centroid OBL. They are studied through a comparison over a set of benchmark functions. Consequently, a new variant of the algorithm is developed and applied to the problem of designing structural tuned mass dampers, in order to reduce their seismic responses. A benchmark building is modeled as a case study, with and without such an optimally designed tuned mass damper. The results show superior performance of the proposed algorithm over EBS and some other metaheuristic algorithms, in improving structural responses under earthquake excitation.
